Making Port wine Cocktails - Part 1
As the author of The Portologist - Crafting Port Wine Cocktails, it’s obvious I would share some om my recipes here, that you will find in the book aswel.
The signature cocktail that I’ve made for this book is the Espresso Martawny. It is getting a lot of attention and people are just loving it, for good reasons. This cocktail has it all - Bitterness, sugar and of course, alcohol ;).
Espresso Martini
Let’s take a step back and review the classis Espresso Martini. This is one of the favorite cocktails in the world and there is a good reason for that. First of all it has got all the looks. Man does that look beautiful. 3 coffee beans, floating on the foam on a dark brown drink in a sophisticated Coupe glass..
Ingredients:
To create an Espresso Martini, you don’t need much and most homecocktail enthusiast can whip one out pretty easily. Because most of us like to drink coffee, the espresso in this cocktail gives that smooth foam layer and a bit of a kick you wish to find in a good cocktail. Much needed too, as the Vodka doesn’t give much flavor in an espresso martini. The coffee liquor on the other hand has that full soft flavor, creating balanced smoothness and making it a drink you can’t resist.
Espresso Martawny Recipe
This cocktail isn’t that hard to make and to master, making it even better for your standard repertoire and to wow your guests when you throw another homeparty! All you need is Ice, an fresh brewed espresso (cold) and 2 liquors - Tawny Port and a coffee liquor (we are using a Kahlua here).
For garnish have a couple of beans ready.
How to make the cocktail:
First, put a couple of icecubes in a cocktail shaker (I am using a Cobbler shaker). Add the shot of Espresso (30ml) and add 2 shots of coffee liquor (60ml) and two shots of tawny port (60ml).
Shake this for about 20 seconds and strain from either the Cobbler shaker or put a stainer to poor it out into the Coupe glass. Make sure you’ve got all that sturdy foam into glass and the glass should now have a thick layer of foam.
Garnish with 3 coffee beans and voila! your Espresso Martawny is ready to drink
