Getting ready to launch a first Kickstarter
To prepare the kickstarter campaign we shook things up quit a bit in both Amsterdam and Deventer, cities that I, the author of the book, have been living in the past years. The photography in the book will be done by myself and the first shots for the book have been taken as you can see here below. Btw: this is also me shaking up some tasty cocktails in one of the most beautiful speakeasy cocktail bars of Amsterdam - Barbue (situated in the Lloyd Hoxton)
How did i get this idea?
Markets are down. Not only in wines, but in port wines too. Actually in the whole alcohol industry, we are seeying a downwards spiral of sales in terms of quantity. Especially port wine has got an image problem amongs a younger audience and increasing prices - so something needed to change. Luckily some of the bigger port wine producers have jumped onto this boat (or created the boat) and added a percentage or two to the total sales, making it a great way of selling a similar product with a new branding - Port wine cocktails and pre-mixes.
To promote this new concept of drinking port wines, I did some research and found there was no book yet written about port wine cocktails in specific. Cocktails being a very big and important market in the US and a growing craft in the EU, I figured this is a great opportunity for me to get my passion about port flowing once more, but now in the shape of a book.
Unfortunately I don’t have the financial means to finance this project of about 25.000 EUR myself so I am asking the community to step in and make this project happen. With the help of you, the backers and supporters of this project, I can continue and finish writing and creating this book so in the summer of 2025, the book will be ready to be shipped out.
Come and back my project at Kickstarter today! I give you early-bird extra’s (only the first 250 backers) including a signed copy of the book, your name mentioned in the book and a price of just 22,- EUR

What is a kickstarter campaign or crowdfunding?
A Kickstarter campaign, or crowdfunding, is a way for individuals, businesses, or creators to raise funds for a project by gathering small contributions from a large number of people, typically through an online platform. Here’s how it works:
Project Setup: The creator sets up a campaign on a crowdfunding platform like Kickstarter. They describe their project (e.g., a book, product, film, or tech gadget), set a fundraising goal, and specify a deadline for reaching it.
Rewards for Backers: To attract supporters, known as "backers," the creator often offers rewards at different contribution levels. For example, a backer might receive a discounted early copy of a product, exclusive merchandise, or behind-the-scenes access.
All-or-Nothing Funding: On Kickstarter specifically, if the campaign doesn’t reach its funding goal by the deadline, no money is collected, and the project doesn’t go forward. This "all-or-nothing" model helps protect both creators and backers, as it ensures the project has enough funds to proceed if it’s successful.
Community Support and Validation: Crowdfunding is a way to test interest in a project before fully committing to it. If a campaign is successful, it shows the creator that there’s demand for the product or idea.
Funds Collected: Once the campaign ends successfully, funds are collected, and the creator uses them to bring the project to life, often keeping backers updated on their progress.
Crowdfunding can take place on various platforms (Kickstarter, Indiegogo, GoFundMe, etc.) and covers a wide range of projects, from creative works to innovative products to community initiatives. It allows people to support projects they believe in and receive early or exclusive access to what’s being created.
