History of W. & J. Graham's
Graham's, established in 1820, is a renowned Port wine producer situated in Portugal's Douro Valley. Recognized globally for its exceptional Vintage Ports and aged Tawny Ports, Graham's is celebrated for its commitment to tradition, meticulous vineyard selection, and winemaking craftsmanship, resulting in Ports of remarkable complexity, elegance, and balance.
Portugal, W. & J. Graham's is one of the most illustrious names in the Port wine industry. The brothers, originally from Scotland, began their journey as textile merchants but their passion for business and fine wine led them to the Douro Valley. Their dedication to quality and integrity quickly established Graham's reputation as a leading producer of outstanding Port wines, with its ports gracing the tables of discerning diners across Europe.
The turning point in Graham's history came in 1890 with the acquisition of Quinta dos Malvedos, a vineyard that would become the cornerstone of Graham's reputation for producing ports of exceptional quality. This tradition continued into the 20th century, even as the company changed hands. In 1970, the Symington Family, themselves with a rich legacy in the Port industry, acquired Graham's, ensuring the continuation of the meticulous craftsmanship and innovative spirit that defined Graham's. Today, five Symington cousins share responsibility for every aspect of the company and personally make Graham’s wines. Their commitment to preserving the time-honored winemaking techniques and dedication to producing high-quality Port wines is a testament to the legacy of William and John Graham.
