In the Beginning Was the Douro
The Dos Santos family's journey commenced in 1836, post the Portuguese Civil War, when Joaquim Ferreira Pinto, a consul of Brazil in Porto, envisioned creating a legacy of exceptional Port wines. The family's dedication to quality bore fruit, reaching prominence in both Portugal and the vibrant Brazilian market.
Apogee and Eccentricity
The 19th century saw the Dos Santos brand flourish under the leadership of António dos Santos Ferreira Pinto. Known for the brand "Dona Othilia," it became a key player in exporting Port Wine to Brazil. However, the eccentricities of Armando dos Santos Ferreira Pinto, a scion of the family, marked the beginning of a new chapter. The Belle Époque lifestyle in Paris and Porto led to the eventual sale of the company in 1920.
Resurrection in 2022
Fast forward to 2022, and Alexandre Antas Botelho, a great-grandchild of Margarida dos Santos Ferreira Pinto, breathed new life into the family legacy. Under the Dos Santos brand, he embarked on a mission to revive the essence of the Douro. Building close partnerships with local farmers and producers, Dos Santos rekindles its ties with the Douro, embracing tradition and innovation.
