HISTORY OF C.N. KOPKE

The origins of Kopkë trace back to a voyage in 1636 from Hamburg to Portugal, marking the commencement of a rich narrative. Nicolau Kopkë, upon setting foot in Portugal, took up the prestigious role of Consul General for the Hanseatic League. Within a short span of two years, by 1638, Kopkë began exporting their inaugural consignment of wine bottles to Northern Europe.

Today, Kopke, under the umbrella of Sogevinus, is recognized for its devotion to the art of winemaking, consistently producing outstanding Port wines. A testament to their centuries-old heritage, the brand is renowned for its exceptional range of Tawny Port wines, especially its Colheitas or single harvest Tawnies. They carry an unrivalled collection of matured Colheita Ports, some dating back to the early 20th century, making them a sought-after choice for Port wine connoisseurs.

Kopke embraces sustainable viticulture, cultivating native grape varieties in their terraced vineyards located in the Douro region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Their Quinta São Luiz estate, with its prime location and unique microclimate, produces wines that encapsulate the essence of the region. Kopke's meticulous approach to winemaking, from vineyard to bottle, ensures that each wine reflects the brand's commitment to quality and the distinctive character of their terroir.
