The Story Behind Quinta dos Corvos

Quinta dos Corvos, translating to "Estate of the Crows," is a cherished family-owned vineyard with a rich history steeped in tradition. Throughout the years, the estate has maintained an unwavering dedication to crafting distinguished Port wines that truly capture the essence of the Douro Valley.

Characteristics of Quinta dos Corvos Port

Quinta dos Corvos prides itself on producing a variety of Port styles, each reflecting the unique terroir of their vineyards. The portfolio includes the vibrant Ruby, the nuanced Tawny, and the coveted Vintage Ports, each crafted to showcase the distinctive character of the region.

Their Vintage Ports are celebrated for their robust structure, intense dark fruit notes, and hint of spices. As these wines age, they develop a complex array of secondary flavors, enhancing their allure and appeal to seasoned wine enthusiasts.

Technical Details

The Ports at Quinta dos Corvos are crafted from a selection of native Portuguese grape varieties grown within their vineyards in the Douro Valley. The winemaking process adheres to traditional methods, including foot-treading in lagares and controlled fermentation, with fortification occurring through the addition of grape spirit.

The Ports are bottled in various sizes, each label bearing detailed technical specifications such as the alcohol content, Baume, and grape composition, providing a clear understanding of the wine's profile to the consumers.

Gastronomic Suggestions

The array of Quinta dos Corvos Ports allows for an intriguing range of food pairing options. Their robust Vintage Ports pair delightfully with dishes such as 'Cabrito Assado' - a traditional Portuguese roasted goat dish. Tawny Ports, with their complex nutty and dried fruit notes, complement 'Serra da Estrela' - a rich, creamy sheep's milk cheese. The Ruby Ports, with their bright fruit-driven profile, can be enjoyed with 'Pudim Abade de Priscos' - a classic Portuguese bacon pudding.

Vineyard Practices

At Quinta dos Corvos, a deep respect for the land and the unique grape varieties of the Douro Valley is reflected in their vineyard practices. Despite the region's challenging terrain, the majority of the vineyard work is carried out manually, preserving the age-old traditions integral to the landscape and the wine's character.

Guiding the winemaking team is the talented enologist, who leverages traditional winemaking techniques with modern viticultural practices to bring out the best in each grape variety and terroir. The result is a portfolio of Ports that truly embody the spirit and the tradition of the Douro Valley.

Quinta dos Corvos stands as a proud testament to the Douro Valley's rich winemaking heritage. Through their commitment to tradition, respect for the land, and passion for innovation, Quinta dos Corvos continues to uphold its esteemed position within the realm of fine Port wine.
