QUINTA DO JAVALI: A BOUTIQUE GEM IN THE DOURO VALLEY

QUINTA DO JAVALI'S HERITAGE

Quinta do Javali, a small 18-hectare wine property, is a testament to the enduring legacy of wine production in the Douro Valley. Located on the left bank of the Douro river, in the parish of Nagozelo do Douro – S. João da Pesqueira, the estate has a rich vineyard tradition dating back to the late 17th and early 18th centuries, when the production of Port wine for export began.

The property includes a small quay on the river, historically used as a wharf for loading the traditional rabelo boats, and a fully rebuilt rustic cottage, which houses an inscription dating from 1839. The characteristic old Douro terrace walls on the property stand as silent witnesses to the vineyard's history.

THE QUINTA DO JAVALI VINEYARDS

The vineyards of Quinta do Javali are located on the north-east facing slopes of the Douro Valley, known for its schistose soil with vertical diaclases that allow the vine roots to penetrate to great depths. This, coupled with the exceptional qualities of the region, provides Quinta do Javali with the perfect conditions for the production of the finest PORT and DOURO DOC wines.

The vineyard is planted in the characteristic Douro terraces, at an altitude between 150 and 300m, and consists of the varieties Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, and Sousão.

PORT WINE SPECIALTIES

Quinta do Javali has a focused portfolio of Port wines, a tradition that has been fine-tuned over the years. Their portfolio includes a select range of Ruby and Tawny Ports, each bearing a testament to the family's commitment to quality, tradition, and the unique terroir of the Douro Valley.

TRADITION MEETS MODERNITY

The winemaking process at Quinta do Javali beautifully blends the traditional practices of the region with modern viticulture advancements. The family still maintains manual harvesting, while also implementing controlled temperature fermentation. After the addition of grape spirit, the wine is fortified and bottled, primarily in standard 750ml bottles, with occasional special editions in unique sizes.

CULINARY PARTNERSHIPS

Quinta do Javali's Port wines offer versatility, providing a delightful pairing experience for a myriad of dishes. The Tawny Port, with its rich tones of nuts and dried fruits, pairs excellently with creamy desserts, mature cheeses, and pâtés. The Ruby Port, vibrant and fruit-forward, is a perfect companion for cheese boards or fruit desserts.

THE QUINTA DO JAVALI LEADERSHIP

The leadership at Quinta do Javali is evident in their dedication to preserving quality and distinction in their products. Every step of the process, from the vine to the bottle, is meticulously overseen, ensuring that each bottle of Port carries the family's legacy and the indomitable spirit of the Douro Valley.

In conclusion, Quinta do Javali embodies a perfect blend of tradition, quality, sustainability, and innovation. Each Port wine is not just a beverage, but a celebration of the rich viticultural heritage of the Douro Valley. The passion and dedication of the Quinta do Javali family shine through each sip, making every bottle a testament to their legacy.

    Tasting notes

Dark and deep color, with violet and intense areola. In the olfactory appreciation, there is a remarkable aromatic complexity, with fruity notes of black plum and blackberry. In the mouth, it is confirmed that we are facing a “huge” Vintage Javali, with a very solid structure, supported by opulent and ripe tannins. Black fruit and dark chocolate reappear in a long and striking finish.
